Match action between Posh and Barnsley

Ricky-Jade Jones netted his 18th goal of the season in all competitions as Posh secured a 1-1 draw against Barnsley at Oakwell.

While the objective at the start of the season was clearly not avoiding relegation from Sky Bet League One, sometimes objectives can change and with three games to play for Peterborough United, Darren Ferguson's men have managed to secure their status in this division, which was looking shaky, particularly with results in December and January.

The players deserve credit for their efforts over the Easter period, particularly with injuries in the camp and after the high of the Vertu Trophy success at Wembley.

A point was hard-earned against promotion-chasing Stockport County on Good Friday and at Oakwell on Easter Monday, Posh battled gamely to secure another 1-1 draw, which, with results elsewhere, ensured that plans can begin for life in League One next term.

In truth, it wasn't a classic. In driving rain at the start,  Posh got themselves into some good positions, but a combination of the final ball or even the timing of it let them down.

Goalkeeper Jed Steer produced a superb stop at the other end to keep out Adam Phillips while David Keillor-Dunn fired over when well placed.

It was Posh who did find the breakthrough, JONES firing into the bottom corner after a lay-off from Abraham Odoh, who continued his fine run of assists.

On the stroke of half-time, dallying in midfield and an attempt to dribble out of danger ended in problems for Posh, but credit to RUSSELL who left Steer with no chance with a fine finish.

Jones left with a hamstring injury at the break with Gustav Lindgren his replacement, but chances were few and far between, although he did come close to forcing home a Mothersille cross.

Posh defended manfully at the other end with Sam Hughes marshalling the back-line - he produced a fine last-ditch tackle to stop Connell at the far post.

In the end, the point was enough to secure safety for Posh and now they can look forward to the remaining three games, starting with Bolton Wanderers at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday.
