Sam Hughes and Carl Johnson

Manager Darren Ferguson has revealed his captain and vice-captain for the 2025/26 campaign.

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson exclusively revealed his captain and vice-captain for the 2025/26 campaign during an interview with Posh+ earlier today.

Defender Sam Hughes has been given the armband with right-back Carl Johnston named as the vice-captain. Ferguson also confirmed there would be a leadership group including three other players.

Hughes made a huge impact when he joined on-loan from Stockport County in January and made his move permanent during the summer. Johnston was also a January arrival, arriving on a permanent basis from Fleetwood Town.

Ferguson explained his decision-making: "Sam will be the captain and CJ will be the vice-captain. I told the players of my decision on Monday. There will be a five-man leadership group as well.

"I think those players set the example on and off the pitch and they have a responsibility, alongside others in that leadership group, to help the squad because it remains a very young group.

"It is important I feel that the dressing room doesn't just hear my voice because that can get a little bit draining and repetitive, I need people to manage things accordingly rather than me all of the time and I believe Sam and Carl have those qualities."

Skipper Hughes said: "It is obviously an honour to be captain of the football club and I have a good vice-captain in CJ. It won't change how I am on and off the pitch.

"It is important that standards are high every day in training and we will do our best to ensure that is the case. As with every leadership group, it is always about everyone driving those standards."
