Huddersfield Town

A look ahead to Saturday's Sky Bet League One fixture at Huddersfield Town (3pm).

Peterborough United go in search of their first league victory of the season on Saturday afternoon with Darren Ferguson's men travelling to the Accu Stadium to face one of the division's promotion hopefuls, Huddersfield Town (3pm), in Sky Bet League One action.

Posh go into the game on the back of a defeat to Leyton Orient in the first group phase fixture of the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday night, while the Terriers beat Newcastle United Under 21s 6-2 in midweek.

TEAM NEWS

Posh welcome back goalkeeper Alex Bass from injury with the summer recruit missing the start of the campaign with an injury sustained in the pre-season victory at Milton Keynes Dons.

Fellow shot-stopper Vicente Reyes is away on international duty with Chile (he was an unused substitute in the 3-0 defeat to Brazil) while defender David Okagbue is away with the Republic of Ireland Under 21s (he was an unused substitute in the win in Moldova).

Ben Woods, Rio Adebisi and Sam Hughes remain sidelined through injury, but Woods is making good progress and could return for the trip to Plymouth Argyle. Oscar Wallin remains unavailable.

Deadline day recruits Jacob Mendy and Tom O'Connor could feature while strikers Harry Leonard and Jimmy-Jay Morgan will be looking to build on their debuts in the trophy.

Terrers goalkeeper Owen Goodman is unavailable due to suspension so Lee Nicholls is expected to continue between the sticks. Joe Low is also expected to return to the starting line-up.

ONE TO WATCH

Alfie May

Alfie May (pictured below) joined Huddersfield Town on a three-year deal, making the move from Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City, in July 2025.

Hailing from Kent, May began his footballing journey in the youth ranks of East London outfit Millwall. After departing the Lions at age 14, he launched his senior career in non-league football with Corinthian. Climbing the ranks of non-league football, May turned out for several clubs including Billericay Town, Chatham Town, Bromley, VCD Athletic, Erith & Belvedere, Farnborough, and Hythe Town.

In January 2017, he took a major step forward by signing his first professional contract with Sky Bet League Two side Doncaster Rovers. During his time at the club, he made 116 appearances and scored 23 goals.

Three years later, he joined Cheltenham Town on a two-and-a-half-year deal. With the Robins, May shone brightly—earning multiple EFL League One Player of the Month awards, scoring eight goals across six games, and netting four times in a single match against Wycombe Wanderers.

His impressive form led to a move to Charlton Athletic, where he continued his goal-scoring exploits. In his debut league season with the Addicks, May scored 23 goals, clinched the League One Golden Boot, and was named both in the PFA League One Team of the Year and as the PFA League One Player of the Year.

In July 2024, he signed for Birmingham City. During his time at St. Andrew’s, he made 57 appearances across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing nine assists. His contributions were instrumental in a record-breaking campaign for the Blues, culminating in the Sky Bet League One title and a new EFL record for points in a single season.

MANAGER QUOTES

"I am confident that when we get our first win, that will give the team the self-belief that they need and it is down to us to change the narrative. Alex Bass has been a big miss for us, he was one of the key pieces of our recruitment in the summer and obviously him not being available has been frustrating. I want my side to play in a way that everyone would expect a Peterborough side to play with, passion, determination, commitment and hopefully if we get those things, then our quality will come through," Darren Ferguson said.
