Posh Under 21s v Nottingham Forest Under 21s

Peterborough United Under 21s suffered a 5-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest Under 21s in the Premier League Cup at Weston Homes Stadium on Friday evening, despite creating several  promising goalscoring opportunities throughout the game.

The Posh endured a difficult start as the visitors opened the scoring after just four minutes. However, the hosts looked to respond, with Conn-Clarke trying his luck from outside the box in the 11th minute, but his effort was comfortably gathered by the goalkeeper.

Conn-Clarke came close again in the 22nd minute, attempting a clever lob amid a goalmouth scramble following a corner, only to be denied by a fine save from the Forest goalkeeper. From the resulting corner, Dornelly found the back of the net, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

The Posh continued to push forward, but Forest threatened on the counter-attack in the 24th minute. Joseph showed great determination to recover and clear the danger, preventing a promising opportunity for the visitors. Despite the hosts' attacking efforts, Forest doubled their advantage in the 29th minute before adding a third in the 40th minute.

The Posh had a golden opportunity to pull a goal back just before the break when Ejiro Abbey won a penalty in the 43rd minute. The Trialist stepped up and directed his spot-kick towards the corner, but the Forest goalkeeper produced an excellent save to preserve the visitors' advantage.

In first-half stoppage time, Smith produced two outstanding saves in quick succession to deny Forest further goals, with the Posh heading into the interval trailing 3-0. Forest extended their lead seven minutes after the restart, finding the net in the 52nd minute.

The Posh continued to search for a way back into the contest, with the Trialist firing over the crossbar from outside the box in the 56th minute. Simmons, introduced from the bench in the 61st minute, brought fresh energy to the attack and quickly registered an effort of his own, but his shot went wide.

The hosts' persistence was rewarded in the 66th minute as ABBEY pulled a goal back for the Posh. Breaking forward on the counter-attack, Abbey skilfully beat his defender before calmly finding the back of the net.

At the other end, Arber produced an excellent sliding block in the 73rd minute to deny a dangerous Forest effort inside the penalty area, demonstrating the Posh's continued defensive commitment. Forest added a fifth goal in the 83rd minute to seal a 5-1 victory. Although the Posh were left to rue several missed opportunities, they continued to show attacking intent and determination in their efforts to find the net despite the difficult scoreline.
