Posh celebrate at Leicester City

Posh moved out of the bottom four with a stunning 3-1 victory at Leicester City as the Robbie Savage era in the league got underway with an impressive away win.

I would imagine Robbie Savage had a dream last night of how he wanted his first league game in charge of Peterborough United to go. It can't have been far from reality.

Standing in the technical area at the King Power Stadium, backed by over 3,300 supporters in the away end, Savage kicked every ball, headed every cross and will understandably sleep well again this evening.

He was rightly proud of his side who put in a superb performance, particularly in the first half when goals from Owura Edwards, Harry Leonard and Ethan Williams (via a hefty deflection from Warren O'Hora) sent Posh into the interval in dreamland.

It started pretty much from the first whistle, Posh were aggressive in their press and on three minutes hit the woodwork as Leonard's header from a Carl Johnston cross was tipped onto the bar by Alex McCarthy.

On 11 minutes, the deadlock was broken, a tremendous pass from Harley Mills picked out EDWARDS, who still had plenty to do, but he cut inside and fired a superb effort into the back of the net.

Alves curled wide at the other end before a cross-shot from Williams was beaten away by McCarthy, who also found himself well placed to keep out a powerful cross from Edwards.

On 35 minutes, it was 2-0, Liam Kelly lifting the ball into the path of Bolu Shofowoke, he took a touch across the area and LEONARD was there to stab the ball into the gaping net.

A minute before the break, it was 3-0 as a WILLIAMS' cross took a huge deflection via the body of O'Hora and flew into the back of the net leaving McCarthy with no chance.

Thomas curled wide in stoppage time for the Foxes, who made three changes at the break in an attempt to get back into the game. Kelly fired wide just after the hour mark before the home side did pull a goal back as RIIS tapped home from close-range after a low cross from Burns.

Vernon Masara fired wide after a deep cross from Mills was kept alive before Matt Garbett tested McCarthy, who did well to beat his drive away from danger. Bass did brilliantly on 75 minutes to keep out a shot on the turn from Burns.

Posh defended magnificently throughout and could have added to the tally late on with Feeney heading wide and Ormerod hooking a shot just wide of the near post.
