Joe Davies netted the only goal of the game as the Posh Under 21s maintained their unbeaten start to the season at AFC Bournemouth.
On a sweltering hot day, the Peterborough United Under 21s claimed an excellent three points as a solitary strike from Joe Davies earned Sam Gaughran's side a 1-0 victory at AFC Bournemouth.
On paper, it looked a tough assignment for Posh, with three trialists in their XI and coming up against a Cherries side with a 100% record from their first few games in Professional Development League action, but a well drilled Posh side largely nullified the obvious threats of the hosts and grabbed a winner late in the second half.
Goalkeeper Ben Westcott made a brave stop inside the opening five minutes and produced a fine save late on, but in between, the central defensive pairing of Lucca Mendonca and Fabian Claxton, supported by Davon Gbuajumo and Noah Freeman in the full-back positions, were resolute.
Skipper for the day Joe Andrews saw a shot saved at the other end and was combative in midfield and as the game wore on, Posh looked more of a threat and grabbed the only goal of the game as Trialist B picked out the onrushing DAVIES who fired low past the goalkeeper from 10-yards.
Lead Under 21s Coach Sam Gaughran said: "It was a really committed performance and very pleasing to see the togetherness of the squad. They were throwing themselves into tackles, defending the box well and that is what you have to do sometimes, sometimes you will suffer in a game and that is twice this season already, where they have come under pressure and stood up to it.
"We got ourselves into some good positions at the other end, we could have done better with a few situations, but Joe took his goal well. Ben has made a couple of good saves, one inside the first few minutes and if that goes in, it might have been a different game, but it didn't and in truth, aside from late on where he made a really good stop, they haven't really caused us too many issues and they are a strong side with players in their XI who have had a lot of first team experience in the league and below."
