Kai Corbett

Posh U21s record an emphatic victory over The Blues.

A brace from Kai Corbett secured a comfortable win for Peterborough United U21s on Tuesday afternoon after a 5-0 success over Birmingham City U21s at the Wast Hills Training Ground in the Professional Development League.

Posh carved out the first opportunity on four minutes as some lovely football on the edge of the box allowed Joel Randall to advance into the box, but his effort was straight at Zach Jeacock. The deadlock was broken on 10 minutes as Kai Corbett’s free-kick was met by Charlie O’Connell and he headed home the opener for Posh.

Randall doubled Posh's advantage just three minutes later after Kabongo Tshimanga reacted quicker to win the ball ahead of the goalkeeper, who then squared to Randall and he fired home from close-range. Corbett then saw a curling effort from the right area of the box deflected wide, and from the resulting corner, Norburn saw his effort on the half-volley blocked.

It became three on 25 minutes and it was a great move by Posh as the ball was played into Tshimanga, who flicked the ball into the path of Corbett and he curled his right-footed effort into the top corner.

Posh dominance continued in the second half as they added a fourth on 49 minutes as O’Connell’s low ball into the box was met by Corbett and his first-time effort was guided into the roof of the net. He was close to grabbing his hat trick just four minutes later as his free-kick smashed against the crossbar.

The woodwork was struck once again by Corbett as his free-kick was pushed onto the bar by Jeacock. The Blues created their first effort on goal on 64 minutes via Brandon Khela, but his effort was straight at Will Blackmore.

Frank Tattum then had a good opportunity for the hosts as he advanced through on-goal, but could only direct his effort wide of the post. Posh added a fifth from the penalty spot as Oscar Tonge was tripped inside the box and Tshimanga calmly converted from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way.
