Defender Niamh Connor commits future with Posh Women for next season.

Peterborough United Women are pleased to announce that defender Niamh Connor has agreed terms with the football club for the 2023/24 season.

The club marked an exciting chapter in their history last season as they offered a handful of players terms ahead of the previous campaign, with the majority of those extending for another season at Posh.

Connor puts pen to paper for the first time after an incredibly positive season in the FA Women’s National League, being part of the backline that kept seven clean sheets in the league this campaign, while also netting five goals in all competitions.

The defender, who has made 63 appearances for the club at the age of 19, was delighted to have signed terms and spoke about her personal development in her second full season at senior level.

“I’m delighted to have signed terms,” Connor said. “I have been at the club since I was 14 years old and been involved in the women’s set-up since I was 16 years old, so it’s a massive compliment to have been offered terms and I’m excited to see what the future holds. Having this opportunity motivates me to want to do even better, helping the club push on further in the league and make myself an established and well-known player in the division.

“Dan [Lawlor] has played a big part in my development this season, lifting my confidence, while moving to Bourne Town and having the fans behind us helped the team and myself improve as an individual. Being one of the youngest in the team, I didn’t have that experience and Lucie [Mugridge] helped that massively. We started as a three at the back and did well with that, but we changed to a four and continued to perform at a high level, so it just proved that we have good chemistry at the back.

“Also, it has been a real confidence boost to be regarded as a leader on the pitch and have your teammates believe in you to do that job. Although top two would be nice in the league next season, I personally want to finish top of the table and get that promotion, continuing our growth as a club.”
