Archie Collins scored a fine winner as Posh earned an important three points on the road at Burton Albion.
Football is a funny old game. There have been much stronger performances from Peterborough United this season, often ones that ended in defeat, but today, at the Pirelli Stadium, it was a display that angered, frustrated and disappointed manager Darren Ferguson, yet they left Staffordshire with all three points thanks to a well-taken goal by Archie Collins.
Ferguson was not a happy man in his post-match media duties, particularly with the first half where his side created next to nothing about from a Jimmy-Jay Morgan header from a Harley Mills cross.
In contrast, Burton had a lot of the ball, put a lot of crosses and long throws into the Posh box and created one or two moments themselves with Alex Bass doing well to keep out a close-range effort from Tyrese Shade.
Bass did well under the aerial bombardment, keeping out further efforts from Charlie Webster and Fabio Tavares before the interval, while Tom Lees, Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Tom O'Connor were all cautioned.
Matt Garbett saw a toe-poked effort blocked after Brad Collins did well to thwart Morgan moments after the break while the New Zealand international also fired over twice in quick succession from 25-yards.
Harry Leonard saw a low drive claimed by Collins before Posh found the breakthrough as the ball fell invitingly for midfielder Archie COLLINS who lashed home a superb strike on the half volley.
Garbett was then denied by Collins before the task for Posh was made harder as Lees received a second booking for a foul after a square pass put him in trouble. Posh defended well for the remainder of the contest with Peter Kioso timing a tackle to perfection with Webster's last minute free-kick that went over the final chance.
Posh welcome Blackpool to the Weston Homes Stadium next Saturday afternoon (3pm) with tickets on sale now.
