Fabian Claxton

Young defender Fabian Claxton has signed a professional contract with the Football Club.

Earlier this year, it proved to be an eventful 24 hours for defender Fabian Claxton. In the morning, he found out he would be offered a professional contract  with Peterborough United and in the afternoon, he sustained a knee injury that would rule him out for the rest of the season.

It was a wide-range of emotions for the centre back, who made his debut for first team in the Vertu Trophy victory over Crawley Town at the Broadfield Stadium in November,

He is working his way back to fitness and is aiming to be back on the grass at the end of June. He is extremely grateful to the club for faith shown in him and is looking forward to returning in pre-season, fully fit and ready to showcase what he can do.

"It was a strange 24 hours without a shadow of a doubt," Claxton said. "In the morning I was discussing with the medical team how pleased I had been with my availability, I felt fit and good and then I found out that I would be offered a professional contract.

"Then in the afternoon, I went out to train and felt something go in my knee. It was tough. Since then, I have been working hard, strengthening my quads and working hard so that I can come back for pre-season without any issues.

"Making my debut in the first team was the undoubted highlight of the campaign, I had no idea I would be starting until quite late, but it was a great experience and I enjoyed it.

"I have played a lot of Under 18s and Under 21s football and when you step into the first team environment, you know that it's different, there is three points or progress in cup competitions on the line.

"I am grateful for the faith shown in me by the coaches and the club and I am now focussed on coming back and hopefully showing what I can do in pre-season, it is an important time," Claxton said.
