Posh Women celebrate

Emily Brett scored twice as Posh Women beat The Imps 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Peterborough United Women secured a 3-2 victory as they came from behind to beat Lincoln City Women thanks to a brace from Brett at the LNER Stadium.

Posh won the first set-piece of the match as Lawlor’s inviting free-kick found Connor at the far post, but she sent her header just wide.

On five minutes, Posh took an early lead thanks to BRETT who blocked the Imp keeper’s pass from a drop ball and fired home into an empty net.

It wasn’t long before the hosts equalised. After some good work down the left from Hardy, the forward found GREEN who saw her shot from a distance nestle into the bottom corner on 13 minutes.

Minutes after, HARDY claimed a goal for herself as she received a through-ball from Quaintance and tapped the ball in the bottom corner to give the hosts the lead. On 30 minutes, Lincoln sought a third at the edge of the box, but Corry made a comfortable save.

Posh maintained good possession before half-time and saw a great chance from Driscoll-King in the box, whose effort was well-blocked by an Imps defender.

After the break, the hosts started strong with a chance from Quaintance who had a go from the edge of the box, but her shot flew just wide of the post. Dan Lawlor made his first change on 51 minutes as Sinead Fletcher came on for Lucie Mugridge.

A few minutes later, Thompson-Moulding put in a dangerous ball from a freekick causing a scramble in the box, the ball fell to Horner but she sent her shot soaring over the crossbar.

Dan Lawlor made another change on 60 minutes as Renai Bennett replaced Poppie Brown. Five minutes later he made a third, as Frankie Pim came on for Tara Kirk.

Posh found the leveller thanks to a wonderful freekick from Lawlor that was met by BRETT to head home and claim her brace on 73 minutes.  Dan Lawlor made his final change on 79 minutes as Zaiga Làcìte replaced Ella Hilliard.

On 83 minutes, Posh took the lead after Brett chased a ball over the top into the penalty area, causing a mix-up at the back and a Lincoln defender to head the ball over Timson and score an own goal.

In injury-time, the hosts attempted to equalise, but despite good work from Farrow down the right, she fired her shot over the bar.
