Posh Under 18s open their new season with a trip to the capital to face Brentford at Wheatsheaf Park.

The Peterborough United Under 18s begin their Professional Development League campaign on Saturday with a trip to face Brentford (12pm).

Jimmy Unwin's side have enjoyed a challenging pre-season campaign, joining a number of Under 21s by playing Professional Development Phase fixtures and go into the clash with the Bees excited by what is to come.

TEAM NEWS

During pre-season, both the Under 18s and Under 21s have got plenty of minutes under their belt, but Saturday's game with the Bees could be the first time a number of players have been in the same XI.

Gary McDermott will take change of Brentford for the first time in competitive action following his summer appointment.

FROM THE MANAGER

Lead Under 18s Coach Jimmy Unwin said: "We are looking forward to it. Pre-season has been good, the players have worked hard and played different kind of matches to get them prepared for the new campaign. Brentford are a good side, they will be a tough test for us, but the important thing for me is to see what we have worked on, the patterns of play and I want us to look like a Peterborough United side."

LEAGUE STRUCTURE

The Under 18s will compete in the south group of the PDL, playing each side in their group twice and a further 10 ‘out of group’ games, totalling 28 fixtures.

The top-ranked sides of the north and south groups will face the second-ranked sides of the opposing group in play-off semi-finals, with the winners then facing off in the national final.
