Peterborough United Women made it three league wins from three after a 5-1 victory over Sutton Coldfield Town on Sunday.
Peterborough United Women extended their perfect start to the league programme with a professional performance in the West Midlands.
Posh raced into a three-goal lead, courtesy of goals from Evie Driscoll-King, Courtney Clarke and Jess Rousseau – but, the home side pulled one back before the break to change the dynamic of the match.
Jake Poole’s side remained switched on and added two more in the second half with substitute Freya Andersen making it three goals in two games.
Posh had a spring in their step from minute one, with Lauren Wilshaw crossing into Niamh Connor, whose header was well saved to Neve Jones’ right.
But Poole’s side hit the front not long after when the ball was knocked free to DRISCOLL-KING, who finished into the bottom corner past the Royals’ keeper following a set-piece.
Niamh Reynolds then had two picks at the lock, with Jones saving well in the first instance before the midfielder’s second effort dropped over the bar.
CLARKE doubled our lead on 35 minutes, drilling home a set-piece into the bottom corner from distance.
ROUSSEAU wasted no time in getting our third, forcing the ball past Jones two minutes later, before the home side looked to hook momentum back in their favour.
The Royals threatened on the turnover, playing the ball around the edge of the penalty area, before Neive Corry eventually did well to gather after the hosts worked the ball forward.
Reynolds then attacked down the other end, but her effort was tame for the hosts’ number one, before Chloe DANN pulled one back in additional time.
Keir Perkins attacked early in the second half, bearing down on goal – only for her strike to fall short of the mark.
Jessica Stanford – who replaced Poppie Brown earlier on – was then teed up in the middle, missing the target from around 12-yards after good work down the left.
Posh continued to wear their visitors down, and Andersen played into this, immediately causing trouble when her strike was pushed away from goal by Jones.
But our number 24 got the better of her opponent, scoring twice in succession to put the game out of sight.
ANDERSEN was played through initially, finishing into the bottom corner after her side found trouble in breaking down the hosts’ defensive blocks.
And the goals didn’t stop there for ANDERSEN, who rounded Jones and finished into the far corner from a tight angle to continue our winning run in the FAWNL Midlands.
