Sammie Szmodics receives first Republic of Ireland call-up.

Peterborough United attacking midfielder Sammie Szmodics has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for the first time, receiving a call-up for the forthcoming fixtures against Andorra and Hungary.

The 25-year-old qualifies for Ireland through his Grandma, who was born in Granard in County Longford, and will be hopeful of the chance to impress over the course of the two friendly fixtures.

Szmodics said: "I am over the moon to recieve my first international call-up for a nation that is close to mine and my family's hearts, I am looking forward to the 12 days ahead and experiencing international football."
