Darren Ferguson’s men set for return to league action on Saturday with trip to Lincoln City.

After nearly a month without a fixture, Peterborough United are due to return to Sky Bet League One to action on Saturday lunchtime (12.30pm kick-off) with a trip to league leaders Lincoln City in a game that will be televised live on Sky Sports.

Posh were forced to postpone three fixtures over the festive period due to Covid-19 and scheduled opponents Doncaster Rovers at the start of the year then had an outbreak leading to the postponement of the first game of 2021.

Both sets of players and management at Posh and the Imps were tested earlier this week with no positive cases reported at either end, so the game is set to go ahead at Sincil Bank. Lincoln have been in action over the festive period and sit top of the table, winning 2-1 at AFC Wimbledon in their last outing.

TEAM NEWS

Posh welcome back Nathan Thompson from suspension and striker Ricky-Jade Jones from injury for the game. Jones has been sidelined for much of the campaign with a leg problem but has a number of weeks of training now under his belt. Joe Ward returned to training on Thursday but is not expected to be considered for this game.

Lincoln were without former Posh winger Harry Anderson in their last fixture as he was in self isolation, but he could return for this game. Boss Michael Appleton also missed that game after testing positive for the virus alongside his Goalkeeping Coach.

FROM THE GAFFER

“It has been a long time since we had a fixture to look forward too. It will have been 25 days. We will certainly have a fresh feel to the squad, but ultimately we won’t really know how that break has affected us until the game gets underway. It would have been a difficult game anyway regardless of the circumstances because Lincoln are a good attacking team, excellent in transition and they have had some good results taking them to the top of the league.

“Lincoln away was actually my first ever game in management and it would normally be a really atmospheric place to go, but I think we all accept that behind closed doors is going to be the norm for a while and we have to get on with it. The game is on television, we want to perform and hopefully come away with a positive result,” Darren Ferguson said.

KIT COLOURS

Posh will be in blue shirts, white shorts and blue socks.
