Posh host Crewe Alexandra on Saturday afternoon at the Weston Homes Stadium.
Peterborough United return to Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon when they entertain Crewe Alexandra at the Weston Homes Stadium (3pm) knowing that three points could lift the club into the automatic promotion places.
The Railwaymen beat Posh 2-0 at the Alexandra Stadium earlier in the season and have enjoyed an excellent first season back at this level. Posh go into the clash on the back of two defeats at the hands of Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers, the latter coming in the quarter-finals of the Papa John’s Trophy.

Posh welcome back central defender Frankie Kent, who has missed the last two games with concussion, but fellow defender Ronnie Edwards is out for up to seven weeks with a muscular problem. Midfielder Jack Taylor was forced off before half-time last week with a calf issue, but Posh are hopeful he will be fit. The latest round of Covid-19 testing has come back all-clear.
Crewe will be without the services of midfielder Oli Finney after scans revealed he had suffered a broken leg in Tuesday night’s clash with Shrewsbury Town. Luke Murphy started at the New Meadow and Tom Lowery came off the bench to replace the injured Finney.
The on-loan, Ant Evans will be hoping for more opportunities after impressing as an impact sub on his debut away at Gillingham. Evans came off the bench to create our consolation goal for Chris Porter on the evening. Crewe have been boosted with the news that both Billy Jones and Charlie Kirk have resumed training and are expected to travel with the squad later today. They are also hopeful of completing a deal for former Bolton Wanderers attacker Joe Doodoo who is available on a free transfer.

“We played Crewe fairly recently and didn’t really do ourselves justice on the day. We conceded two very avoidable goals, the first from a dubious free-kick and the second is a poor pass across the pitch which was intercepted. We know that Crewe are a good side, they have demonstrated that throughout this season. We know it is about us on Saturday, if we win the game we are one of the form sides in the division,” Darren Ferguson said.

“It will be a tough challenge for us going to Peterborough. They have some good form, at home especially, and have some good players, but we don’t fear anyone and that is not arrogance, we know where we are in the pecking order but we have to go there and give a good account of ourselves and see where it takes us,” Crewe boss David Artell said.
