As part of our kit launch for the 20/21 season we were honoured to feature a selection of key workers from across the city - we would now like to introduce you to them. This week, we’re getting to know Debbie Haupert, who works for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust provide mental health and community physical health services and during the pandemic and at the Maples wards at the Cavell Centre, Bretton Gate, they have been vitally important for the care of people over the age of 65, who have been particularly affected by the global challenge of Covid-19.

Debbie Haupert is a housekeeper for the Maples wards, has seen first-hand the impact the service can provide. A former healthcare assistant, she moved into the role in 2018 and believes ‘togetherness’ has been the key during this incredibly challenging time.

“With the kindness and compassion of others, we have managed to come through this tough period together. That has been key. My role is to provide staff with stores and equipment so they can continue to do their job properly and it is incredibly rewarding because I know that I am making a massive difference.

“During this time, it has made me feel incredibly proud to work for the NHS and it is great that the rest of the country has come together to show their support for the work that goes on. For me, not being able to hug my grandchildren has been the aspect of life that I have missed during this time. We have missed several birthdays during the pandemic so we are planning to have a big family BBQ when we can.”

With 4,000 staff, the Trust also provides learning disability, social care, and children community healthcare services. It is also renowned for its research work. It’s charity, set up for the benefit of patients and staff, is called “Head To Toe”.

The charity has four key aims; care and treatment; hope and support; research and innovation; and raising awareness and understanding. You can find out more about the charity at www.headtotoecharity.org
