Southend United visit the Weston Homes Stadium on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Peterborough United go in search of their sixth successive Sky Bet League One victory on Tuesday evening when they entertain Sol Campbell’s Southend United at the Weston Homes Stadium (7.45pm).

Posh go into the clash in third place in the league table following Saturday’s thumping 4-0 victory over Oxford United while struggling Southend were beaten away from home at Blackpool at the weekend and face an uphill task to avoid the drop.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the suspended Nathan Thompson who serves a one-match suspension following his red card against Oxford. Frankie Kent will have a scan on his knee injury on Tuesday morning so is unavailable. The club are ‘hopeful’ that it is not a serious injury, but the scans and x-rays will confirm details.

Frazer Blake-Tracy provides an option at centre back while Rhys Bennett and Niall Mason should continue where they left off alongside Mark Beevers at the back. Idris Kanu is back in training but won’t be considered for this clash after a lay-off with an eye injury.

The Shrimpers are e in advanced talks with former Macclesfield Town duo Theo Vassell and Emmanuel Osadebe and they could feature. They travelled to Bloomfield Road but were not given clearance to be involved.

FROM THE GAFFER

“It will be a different kind of test for us on Tuesday night, but the players know the standards that they have set and the levels they have to reach to be successful. They know that the running distances need to be right. We have kept the same 18 for a few weeks but we know that has to change with Nathan suspended and Frankie injured but we have a really strong squad and we are looking forward to the game,” Darren Ferguson said.

FROM THE OPPOSITION

“Now all the games are a test. We have to patch ourselves up again and go again, and hopefully, we get a bit of luck [at Peterborough]. That’s all we can do really; we’re going to look over the next 10 days to two weeks and see where we’re at,” Shrimpers boss Sol Campbell said following the defeat to Blackpool.
