First Time Fans Initiative at the Weston Homes Stadium is proving popular.

Over the last 18 months, Peterborough United have welcomed hundreds of new supporters to the Weston Homes Stadium and thanks to our ‘First Time Fans Initiative’, we are helping to create memories that will hopefully last a lifetime.

We invite supporters that are visiting the stadium for the first time to contact the football club in advance via newfans@theposh.com and we will provide a sneak peak behind the scenes on the match day that you wish to attend.

On Saturday, we welcomed over 15 children and families to the stadium on this particular initiative, taking them pitchside to meet mascot Peter Burrow, who many are familiar with thanks to his sterling work in assemblies as part of the aforementioned ‘Schools Initiative’.

Our guests then get the chance to sit in the home dugout before having a picture taken with the mascot or the match ball, which is then printed and presented in a frame to provide a memento of their ‘first game’.

It is then time to go into the tunnel where they have the perfect position to see the Peterborough United squad depart the dressing room and out onto the pitch. Our younger supporters (although we do allow the adults to do it too!) then get the opportunity to high five the players before they make their way pitchside.

Once our guests have witnessed the visiting team depart their dressing room and onto the pitch, it is then time to take their own seats and hopefully watch a Posh victory. Press Officer Phil Adlam said: “As staff behind the scenes, we can’t affect what goes on the pitch from 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, but what we can have an affect on is the whole match day experience off the pitch.

“Thanks to the Schools Initiative, we are welcoming more and more youngsters and families to the stadium and their first time is extremely important to us. We want them to enjoy the experience but not only that, take away a memento that reminds them of that experience. We believe very strongly in fan engagement and this is just one of a number of initiatives that we have at the Weston Homes Stadium.”

If you are attending a Posh fixture for the first time, drop us an email at newfans@theposh.com and we will talk you through the timings and what is involved.
