As part of our kit launch for the 20/21 season we were honoured to feature a selection of key workers from across the city - we would now like to introduce you to them. This week, we’re getting to know Tim Runnegar, who is a delivery driver for Amazon.

During this pandemic, there have been many heroes who perhaps haven’t been given the recognition that they deserve yet their role in today’s society has been vitally important in keeping the country moving.

Tim Runnegar is a delivery driver for Amazon and with the high street largely closed, online shopping has never been more popular. The company has posted large profits during this period of time and there have been people taken on to cope with the demand, including Tim, who joined in March after being made redundant at the start of lockdown.

“It has been crazy to be honest with you. It has been two and a half times busier than the usual Christmas period and there are long hours and long days to complete but it honestly, seeing people smile and give appreciation at the job I and so many others do is very rewarding.

“I actually think I have been lucky in the sense I’ve been able to keep busy and keep working. I have never seen myself as a key worker, but the support we’ve been giving has been huge and keeps you going. Normality cannot come quickly enough, but we have to make sure that we do things safely and be patient.

“I have missed my family so much and not being able to give my mum a hug was really tough, but thankfully with the joy of technology we have been able to keep in touch.”
