Boyd cannot wait to get started after agreeing deal with Posh.

“I don’t think I would have dropped down into League One for anyone else,” George Boyd said in his first interview with the club after re-signing on a two-year deal. The opportunity, however, to return to Peterborough United wasn’t a tough decision.

With Darren Ferguson at the helm and former team-mate Aaron Mclean on the coaching staff, Boyd knows he will enjoy his football and that is part of the attraction. The other? To get another promotion with the football club.

“I am genuinely excited. I don’t think I would have dropped down into League One for anyone else. There is sentimental value here, but the reason I am here is to get another promotion with the football club. It is a good squad that Darren has assembled and a big thank you to the chairman for getting the deal over the line. I am delighted to be here.

“The manager is desperate for promotion and hopefully I can help that. I know what I am getting, I know that I am going to enjoy training every day. I love the way he plays football. At this stage of my career you need to enjoy football and play with a smile on your face and I feel that I can do that here.

“I believe I can play anywhere in the top six positions on the pitch, but the manager has spoken about central midfield. Hopefully in the coming weeks I will get to know the position of central midfield a little better, but it is something I am really looking forward too. It feels like I have never been away. It is a family club, a few familiar faces and it is really important for me to get it done before the season starts.

“It will be weird having Aaron as a coach but that will help me settle in. I really am excited and I can’t wait to get started. I am here because I want the challenge of promotion. The desire is still there. I had a few offers, but I have to be honest, it wasn’t a tough decision to come here. I hope I can bring a bit of quality here and show people what I can do,” Boyd said.
