The Posh Ladies recorded an emphatic 4-1 victory over Loughborough Students.
Having picked up a well-deserved point in their opening league fixture on Wednesday evening, Peterborough United Ladies were hoping to open their home campaign with a win and they managed this at the expense of Loughborough Students with a convincing 4-1 victory at the Mick George Training Academy.
Posh started the brighter of the two teams and were instantly rewarded when Megan Parrett notched her first competitive goal for the club, with a fine finish at the back post, within the opening five minutes.
Posh dominated possession in the first half, but it took until the 41st minute to double their lead. New signing Donna McGuigan capitalised on a wayward Loughborough pass and slotted the ball home from inside the area to make it 2-0 going into the break.
Loughborough appeared to have adjusted their tactics in the second half and pulled a goal back shortly after the break. They continued to press Posh, but it was Posh who got the next goal of the game. Keir Perkins squaring the ball across the Loughborough 18-yard box and McGuigan bravely notching her second of the game, against an oncoming Loughborough keeper.
Posh seemed to regain momentum and midfielder Stacey McConville had two fine efforts, one which rattled the upright and the other which was well saved by the Loughborough keeper. Posh weren’t done though and in the final minutes, McGuigan completed her hat-trick with a fine long-range effort after more good link up play with Perkins.
