George Cooper hoping to add to pre-season goal tally in two fixtures on foreign soil.

The Peterborough United squad arrived in Portugal on Sunday afternoon following an early morning flight from the UK and after getting acquainted with their new surroundings, took to the pool for a session put on by Head of Strength and Conditioning Lee Taylor.

Midfielder George Cooper, who has rivalled Siriki Dembele in the eye-catching goals stakes after a wonderful strike in the big win against Peterborough Sports, believes the week away from the training ground will be hugely beneficial.

“It is nice to come away to Portugal and spend a good week together with the lads. We have two matches while we are here too so it is about putting fitness in the bank. We have signed a lot of players in the summer and a lot have departed so it is a good opportunity for everyone to get to know each other better.

“I was happy to get a few goals in the first couple of pre-season friendly fixtures and hopefully I can score a few more while we are in Portugal. We know it will be a tough week, but everybody is looking forward to it. I am sure we will all come back at the end of the week better for the experience and then we can kick-on as we approach the new season,” Cooper said.

The Posh squad will begin their work on the training pitch on Monday morning as preparations continue for Wednesday morning’s game with Maritimo. Posh have a second friendly on Saturday morning before departing back to the UK on Sunday morning.
