Posh Ladies suffer heartbreaking defeat on penalties in latest cup clash.

Posh Ladies travelled to Lincolnshire to face higher opposition in the second round of the League Cup.  Nettleham went into the game off the back of five straight wins which saw them top their league, but Posh were hopeful of a cup upset.

Posh soaked up the early pressure and broke the deadlock after 18 minutes, when Jeorgia Carr pounced onto a miskick from the Nettleham goalkeeper.  Posh settled into the game and maintained possession well.  Unfortunately Nettleham equalled before half-time after Posh failed to deal with a long throw, which the Nettleham striker latched onto and scored with a fine driven shot across the helpless Posh keeper.

Posh came out strong in the second half and started to look more threatening in the final third, but were unable to convert their chances.  Nettleham also had their fair share of chances, but some resilient defending prevented a serious threat.  Despite both team’s best efforts, extra time was inevitable.

Extra time was played in an equally frantic fashion and both teams pushed to grab the goal they needed to take them through to the next round, but it wasn't to be and at full-time of extra time the tie was taken to penalties.
