The latest news from the Futsal scholarship.

The Peterborough United Scholarship is showing great success at present. We are securing great results in our fixtures and a substantial amount of potential new scholars attending our taster sessions.

In the last turn of fixtures, Posh A gave Leicester City a humiliating 15-2 defeat. Posh were a real force as they battled and outplayed their opponents. Posh A carried their unbelievable form once again, securing another vital three points on the Road to the Nationals. They face Norwich next, another tough test. If Posh can continue their form, then they will provide Norwich with a real fight for the points.

Posh B also wanted to continue their great form since their league success before the New Year, and make it back to back wins against Stoke. The Posh started slowly in this fixture and this proved to be costly as they found themselves 3-1 down at half-time. They reacted well in the second half, and should have come away with a minimum of a point, however they ended up losing 4-3. Coach Callum Avent was disappointed to come away with the loss, but was happy with how the players reacted in the second half. They will be looking to bounce back with a win when they play Cambridge later this month.

The Futsal scholars also have the Futsal Cup coming up on Thursday 8th March, where they will be taking on Grimsby Town, Sheffield United, Burton Albion and Blackpool. The Posh will be looking to qualify out of their group but understand the challenge ahead of them, particularly Grimsby, who won the National Finals last season. Coach Michael Johnson is more than confident in his side. “The boys have shown great determination this season, and if they work hard enough they have the quality and passion to win key games and qualify from the group”. On the 25th February, we held another taster session at Nene Park Academy for those interested in the scholarship, interested in getting a taste for the game, or for those who have/ or are thinking of applying for September 2017. We had a turnout of 43, one of our highest turnouts, who all get to taste futsal training, and also a session in the gym with professional coaches.

This coming Saturday, 11th March, all players that have been given a conditional offer to join us in September will be joining coaches at the ABAX Stadium for an exclusive ground tour, also meeting 1st team players! They will then get a free ticket to watch the 1st team home tie against Oxford United.
