Posh boss reacts to the release of the fixture list.

Peterborough United manager Grant McCann has admitted that he is pleased to start the new Sky Bet League One campaign with a home fixture after a number of years kicking off the season with an away journey as Plymouth Argyle visit the ABAX Stadium on Saturday 5th August.

McCann, reacting to the release of the fixture list, said: “Firstly, it is great to not be travelling to Rochdale on the opening day. I wanted to be at home and with the Caraboa Cup also at the ABAX, we have two games in the first week in front of our own supporters and that is something to look forward too.

“I think it is a good start for us. We have to play everyone at some stage, but we want to start the season well and give us a platform to build on. I am sure Plymouth will bring a big following, they always do, and I am sure it will be a big crowd and it will be down to us to put on a performance and get the result we want.

“We have a local derby at Northampton early on and we have good memories of playing them after the two results last season. In fact, we beat Bristol Rovers and Northampton away late on in both games so they will be challenging fixtures.

“The Christmas period is always a part of the season that fans are immediately drawn to and we have a difficult trip to Bradford City on Boxing Day. Bradford have lost a number of their players, but I am sure they will recruit well. It is not too far to travel and I am sure it will be a good atmosphere inside that stadium.

“I am really looking forward to it. As a player, you always feel that the summer break is not long enough, but as a manager, I just can’t wait to get started. I have had a good break with the family, but the players are back on Friday for fitness testing and then straight into it on Monday. I hope we can try and get a few additions in the building before we go to Spain next week,” McCann said.
