Posh Back To Winning Ways With Comfortable Away Win

Peterborough United chalked up their seventh away win of the season with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Port Vale as substitute Junior Morias bagged a brace in a fine success at Vale Park.

Nathan Smith was the first player to enter the referee's book as he crudely took down Marcus Maddison after a bright opening from Grant McCann's men in the winter sunshine.

Shodipo fired wide after cutting inside onto his right-foot on the quarter hour mark as Posh were caught with a swift counter-attack from the hosts.

Posh were awarded a spot-kick on 23 minutes as Maddison was upended in the box by Guy. Maddison stepped up but saw his penalty superbly saved on debut by Fasan.

However, two minutes later, MADDISON atoned for his miss with a solo goal for pure class, picking up the ball deep, running at the back four and then curling a superb effort into the corner.

JJ Hooper fired an ambitious effort over the crossbar on 40 minutes after Grant was dispossessed in midfield.

Nichols squandered a presentable chance to shoot at goal on 42 minutes after great work from Binnon-Williams, but his tame effort was hacked clear before it reached Maddison.

On the stroke of half-time, McGee was called upon to make his first save of the afternoon, diverting a downward Smith heade over the crossbar from close-range.

A Maddison curler was inches away from being reached by Nichols on the stretch on 53 minutes after Posh worked a short corner kick routine. Da Silva Lopes was cautioned for a foul on 56 minutes.

Posh made a change just before the hour mark with Brad Inman replacing Da Silva Lopes. Vale made a double change as they penned Posh back with set-pieces and balls into the box, but as half reached the midway point, Posh were heading everything away.

Mackail-Smith blazed over after an intelligent one-two with Nichols on 70 minutes before Pugh was cautioned for fouling Maddison.

Eagles fired inches wide of the target from the edge of the box moments later with McGee at full stretch. Pugh cleared the crossbar with an effort on his left-foot from 25-yards.

The hard-working Mackail-Smith was replaced by Junior Morias on 81 minutes as McCann made a second change.

Martin Samuelsen replaced Edwards on 86 minutes as McCann made his final change. Posh made it 2-0 as the game went into five minutes of stoppage time and what a moment for the substitute MORIAS who took advantage of a closed down deflection from Nichols to cut inside and fire low into the bottom corner for his first goal in the Football League.
