Posh opened their new Central League reserve campaign with an emphatic win over Southend United.

On-loan Tottenham Hotspur youngster Nathan Oduwa netted twice as the Peterborough United reserves (U23) opened their Central League campaign with a 4-0 victory over Southend United at the Mick George Training Academy.

On a sweltering hot afternoon, Dave Farrell's men dominated for long spells, but only made that dominance count in the second period with all four goals scored in those 45 minutes.

Shaquile Coulthirst wasted two first half chances while Matty Stevens was denied by the Shrimpers goalkeeper Josh Bexon on two occasions.

The visitors hit the crossbar via a deflected free-kick from Luke O'Neill who was also cautioned by referee Mr Reeson for a trip.

Posh opened the scoring through ODUWA who finished from close-range after superb work from Coulthirst down the right, who showed excellent pace and delivered a first time cross for his one-time Spurs team-mate.

The duo repeated the feat moments later with a similar conversion from ODUWA who also felt he should have had a penalty kick after going down in the box.

Posh introduced a young TRIALIST from the bench and he netted the third, firing low through a defender's legs after another assist from Coulthirst, this time from the left.

The scoring was completed from the spot after COULTHIRST was upended in the box, he stepped up and coolly converted high to the goalkeeper's right.

Posh goalkeeper Mark Tyler was called upon twice in the action, making a superb stop in the first period, while Bexon also produced a stunning stop to deny the lively Moore.
