Grant McCann arranges visit for children who lose Posh possessions in fire.

Children who lost their possessions following a devastating house fire cannot stop smiling after being given the surprise of a lifetime by Peterborough United.

Declan Shaw (6) and brother Noah (5) got to meet the Posh players ahead of last Saturday’s home match against Port Vale, and they both received lots of signed merchandise including the shirt midfielder Jon Taylor wore in the FA Cup clash against Premier League side West Brom.

Declan had lost his treasured football - signed by some Posh players - in the fire on January 25 which also sadly took the life of the family dog Dudley, a nine-month-old Patterjack.

Grant McCann said: “I learned about it through a supporter on social media. I had read about the tragic circumstances surrounding the fire so I got in touch with them. The kids had lost all of their Peterborough United merchandise and seeing things like that really brings it home how lucky you are to be working at this club.

"I wanted to give the boys a special day. I found out that their favourite players were Jon Taylor and Martin Samuelsen so I got a couple of their match worn shirts from the West Bromwich Albion game and got them a couple of balls used in the games. I bought a few hoodies personally myself from the Club Shop to cheer them up a bit.

"I got them tickets for the game, took them into the dressing room before the game to meet the squad and I think little things like that can give a little bit back to those who have supported us through good times and bad. I know that the family are all big Posh fans as well, the kids are growing up to be big Peterborough fans and I hope that the gesture was able to brighten their day up during recent difficult circumstances.”
