Posh have completed their second signing of the summer.

Peterborough United are pleased to announce the arrival of left-back Andrew Hughes, who has penned a two-year contract, after spending nearly 10 years with Newport County, where he made over 150 appearances.

The 24-year-old turned down a new deal with County and refused offers from other clubs to join Posh and become Grant McCann's second summer signing following the arrival of Hayden White from Bolton Wanderers last month.

"Andrew is a lad I watched a few times last year and he arrives highly recommended from the manager at Rodney Parade. He had a number of clubs looking at him from this division and higher so we are really pleased to have him on board.

"The left-back area is an area that I definitely needed to strengthen and we will add another one to that during the summer. Andrew is fully aware that I will be bringing another one in. I want competition for places.

"Andrew is a good player and he will definitely be threatening the starting line-up this coming season. He has played a lot of games in the Football League, he played the last 30 games last season and was very good.

"I am delighted to get this signing over the line and look forward to working with him," McCann said.

The deal is subject to the paperwork being approved by the Football League and the Football Association.
