The latest round up from the Posh Futsal.

Our scholarship squad have been very busy recently and look to be in the near future. Our 2nd year scholars have just finished their 2 year scholarship with us and we saw many of them compete in their last ever fixture for the club on the 15th June in Birmingham for the Nationals.

This saw a group from the squad travel to Birmingham the night before to stay down overnight ahead of the big set of fixtures in which Posh were up against Huddersfield, Crewe and Brentford. Both Crewe and Huddersfield both won their leagues and Brentford finished 2nd in their regionalised league.

Although the travelling Posh group knew it would be difficult, they were very optimistic of getting out of their group. Preparation for the Nationals had started many weeks before the 15th, this had started immediately after they knew they had qualified for the competition when they pinched 3rd place off of Chelsea on final game of the season.

On the day, the group were most confident about their opening fixture Brentford as they had demolished them just a couple of weeks earlier in the league which saw Posh win 8-1 only conceding in the final kicks of the game. However this over confidence saw Posh go 1-0 down within minutes. Brentford continued with an immense tempo meanwhile Posh didn’t look like they had woken up, Posh saw themselves 4-0 down with 15 minutes and that is when you saw them spark. This saw Posh claw a late goal back however it wouldn’t prove to be enough.

Posh were then to face Huddersfield followed by Crewe, both were now must win games. Both of these teams had topped their tables in their regionalised leagues and the travelling Posh Nationals squad knew it would be a tough ask. Posh started very brightly against Huddersfield and took the lead, it then ignited Nassunculo who tore Huddersfield apart and scored a great individual goal to make it 2-0. Posh went on to control the game and win 7-2.

The last fixture was to be Crewe and once again a must win game. Posh were leading for the majority of the 1st half and with just two minutes on the clock until half time they were leading 4-2. Crewe had a very influential player who had received top goal scorer for the year in his league with 60 goals. The Blues defence were caught sleeping when he scored two and set up one in 90 seconds of madness which put Crewe 5-4 up at half time.

Posh battled tremendously and did equalise however just couldn’t handle the individual who went on to finish the scoring at 7-5. Player of the tournament from the Posh set up went to T.Nassunculo for his performances over the three fixtures. The Posh side had represented the club on and off the court in a magnificent light. What a way for the 2nd year scholars to finish their two years!

The squad travelled to Footgolf last Friday for their end of season event as a team, the group really enjoyed this even with the great British weather taking effect on procedures. The squad will be having their presentation evening on Friday 24th of June from 6.30pm to 8pm in the Sponsors Lounge. This will see players pick up awards for the season and for their individual achievements.

If you would like to be involved in the scholarship, we are holding an open taster session at Nene Park Academy from 11am-12.30pm on Saturday 9th July. This is open to all players aged 14-17 and interested in our futsal programme. This will provide you with a great chance to taste futsal and meet coaches from the club.
