Posh have completed the signing of striker Matt Stevens from Barnet.

Peterborough United can confirm the signing of highly-rated striker Mathew Stevens from EFL Sky Bet League Two side Barnet with the 18-year-old penning a three-year contract at the ABAX Stadium.

The fee for the transfer will be determined at a tribunal and has been described as 'one for the future' by Posh boss Grant McCann.

Stevens officially becomes a Posh player today (July 1st) and McCann said: "Matty has been scoring a lot of goals for Barnet in their under 21s and will be one for the future for us.

"He is an excellent finisher and I am delighted to add him to the group. He is only a youngster so he has plenty of time and I am looking forward to working with him and helping him develop," McCann said.

Stevens was thrilled to make the move and begin the next chapter. "I enjoyed my time at Barnet, but when I heard about the interest from Peterborough, it was a move that really excited me. I feel I was ready for the next chapter in my career and I can't wait to get started.

"I put pressure on myself to score goals and I will be doing everything I can to impress the management during pre-season. I know there are a lot of good strikers here and I will need to work hard in training to show everyone what I can do," Stevens said.

The striker scored 56 goals for the Barnet in all competitions last season (youth team games/under 21s and two goals for the first team) and has been linked with a string of clubs, but he will continue his development at the ABAX Stadium.
