Futsal manager Michael Johnson gives an update on the Posh Futsal programme.

We recently held a friendly round robin tournament with Deeping Rangers under 18’s at Nene Park Academy. This was very successful, with us seeing over 40 players involved in the tournament. Many of the players who took part for Deeping had never played the game of futsal before and likewise for some of the Posh players, as across the 3 teams they had, many of these players are newcomers and will be coming on board the scholarship programme in September 2016, but up until now have only played football.

Although many of the players were new to the game, we did see a few of our existing scholars take part which gave a basic knowledge and understanding to each team. The tournament saw Deeping get started with a coaching session from Posh futsal staff and a go through of the futsal rules. Deeping got off to a flying start in the tournament not losing across their two teams for the first three games. However as the round robin grew so did the Posh sides into the competition, Posh 1 (Blues) ended up winning the round robin after ending their fixtures with a few important wins. Each game was a shortened version of the normal game due to time constraints however it gave all players from Deeping and Posh valuable game time.

All players went away having enjoyed the day with both sides and both sets of coaches impressed with the standard which was on display. Driscoll was just one of the standout players for Deeping along with many others, however he will be joining the Posh set up for September.
