Captain Chris Forrester has agreed a new three year contract.

Peterborough United are delighted to announce that captain Chris Forrester has agreed a new three year contract with another year option at the ABAX Stadium.

The Irishman, who was named the club's new skipper this week, has been outstanding since his arrival from St Patricks Athletic and was called into the Republic of Ireland's provisional squad for friendly fixtures back in March.

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony, in an interview with the club's Youtube channel, explained the new deal. "I took a punt on Chris last year and he took a punt on coming over because he took a pay cut when he came over,  but I promised him that if he had a good season then we would look at his contract again. I get on well with his agent and we have been working on the deal in the last few days and it was easy to get it done. He is one of our most coveted assets at the football club.

"Chris has been excellent for us, the gaffer has named him captain of the club and him agreeing a new deal sends a real statement out there," MacAnthony said.

Manager Grant McCann added: "It has been a great week for Chris to be fair! He has worked extremely hard since he came over from Ireland and this is good reward for him. He has been excellent since he has joined and long may that continue."
