Brewers Condemn Posh To Defeat

Peterborough United put in one of their poorest dispays of the campaign as they were beaten 1-0 by Burton Albion at the ABAX Stadium on a blustery night in Sky Bet League One.

The visitors opened the scoring inside the opening four minutes as a low cross to the back post was converted by Tom NAYLOR who was left unmarked as Posh were all at sea at the back.

Goalkeeper Ben Alnwick produced a fine stop by his near post to beat away a fierce drive from Duffy on 21 minutes after Almeida Santos had gifted possession to the visitors in a key area.

McCrory was a whisker away from adding a second from a deep corner kick, the ball somehow deflecting inches past the post with Alnwick rooted.

McLaughlin was forced to make his first save of the evening on 37 minutes, as he got a fingertip to a low right-footed effort from Maddison, pushing it away for a corner.

Posh were dealt a blow on 43 minutes as Toffolo was left grounded after a nasty head collision. After over seven minutes of treatment, he left on a stretcher.

Alnwick did well to push a low Butcher effort around the post and from the resulting set-piece produced an even better stop, a one handed save to push an Akins header around the post.

A low Taylor shot was straight at McLaughlin moments later after he linked well with Oztumer in a central area.

After the lengthy amount of extra time for the head injury sustained by Toffolo, referee Mr Robinson brought an end to the first half.

A driven cross from Maddison picked out Forrester on 51 minutes, but his flicked header went just wide of the far post with McLoughlin unmoved.

On 57 minutes, a rasping drive from Smith whistled just past the post as Posh tried to get themselves back into the contest that they have been largely second best in till this point.

Posh made a change moments later with Martin Samuelsen replacing Jon Taylor. As the game entered the final 10 minutes, Posh were still struggling to put anything together of note while the visitors were content to defend deep and soak up any pressure.

Burton were able to coast towards the final whistle and move back to the top of the League One table.
