Posh host a Norwich City Category 1 side at the ABAX Stadium.

The opening fixture of the Checkatrade Trophy will see Peterborough United entertain a Norwich City Category 1 side at the ABAX Stadium on Tuesday evening (7.30pm).

The Canaries must field six under 21 players in their starting line-up, but could field five first team players to make up the XI should they choose.

The Norwich under 23 manager Dmitri Halajko hinted that first team players could be involved, describing the competitoin as a 'joint project'.

"We played their reserves a couple of weeks ago in a friendly, where we equipped ourselves quite well. We didn't have any senior boys that day, and they were slightly better than us, but it was a taste of what's to come.

"There will possibly be some first team involvement on Tuesday, but we'll wait and see. It's going to be something of a joint project."

Posh have to field five players who started the 2-0 win at Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday or five players who are set to start next Saturday's fixture with Swindon Town. Posh could also field five players with the most appearances in the league and cup so far this season to comply with the rules of the competition.

If the scores are level following 90 minutes, both teams will get one point.  The game will then go straight to a penalty shoot-out with the winning team earning an additional point.

Posh boss Grant McCann hinted following the win over MK Dons that a number of his players may be given a rest with Paul Taylor substituted in the second half with a knock.

Central defender Ryan Tafazolli is expected to play an hour as he begins his comeback from a hamstring injury.
