Posh host AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the EFL Cup tonight.

Peterborough United are in competitive action at the ABAX Stadium for the first time this evening (7.45pm) as AFC Wimbledon visit in the first round of the EFL Cup.

Neal Ardley's men, who were promoted to Sky Bet League One last term via the play-off final, were beaten 3-0 on the opening day of the league campaign at the weekend with Walsall running out convincing winners at the Banks's Stadium.

However, the scoreline was not a fair reflection of the performance by Wimbledon, who squandered a host of chances in front of goal on their debut at that level.

Posh boss Grant McCann is expecting a tough test: "This is a tough game for us. Wimbledon play in a certain way and it works well for them. They put crosses into the penalty area from all angles and they have a regular goalscorer in Lyle Taylor who usually plays alongside a big centre-forward.

"It’s going to be a physical battle for our centre-backs and we must also be aware of knockdowns into our area. “Wimbledon lost 3-1 at Walsall at the weekend, but they had plenty of chances to score. Having said that it’s important that we impose our style of play on the game," McCann said.

The Posh boss will be without the services of Lee Angol and Brad Inman due to injury, but Michael Smith is fit and available for selection after missing the weekend win over Rochdale.

Central defender Ryan Tafazolli will not be risked due to a hamstring injury, but he is expected to return to full training on Thursday ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet League One clash with Bradford City at the ABAX Stadium (3pm).

Tickets are available for tonight's cup-tie at www.theposhtickets.com, via the Ticketmaster hotline 0844 847 1934* and in person at the ABAX Stadium.

If the scores are level following the 90 minutes, 30 minutes of extra time will be played and if no winner is determined, the tie will go to penalties.
