Posh Not At The Races In Fleetwood Loss

Peterborough United suffered a 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town in Sky Bet League One action with manager Graham Westley calling the display an 'insult' to the supporters who travelled.

A total of 130 hardy souls made the long trip north and they were given nothing to shout about as the Cod Army eased to a comfortable win.

The opening exchanges of this Sky Bet League One contest was jam-packed with both sides enjoying a decent amount of possession with Marcus Maddison seeing an early effort beaten away by Chris Maxwell.

Wes Burns flashed a shot wide from 25-yards before Bobby Grant was denied by Ben Alnwick after sending a crisp low shot goalwards.

Stefan Scougal fired wide for the Cod Army before Posh saw a Michael Bostwick effort blocked by Nathan Pond.

The home side opened the scoring on 38 minutes as Wes BURNS managed to get past Michael Bostwick and his low shot found the bottom corner.

Posh had the chance to level the scores from the penalty spot on 42 minutes as a fine run from Shaquile Coulthirst was ended by Conor McLaughlin. Bostwick stepped up but saw his low penalty saved by the legs of Maxwell.

Neither side made any changes at the interval, but the home side were brighter with Grant going close on 51 minutes.

Scougall dragged a shot wide of the target before Grant curled a left-footed effort over the bar.

The home side doubled the lead on 68 minutes as a free-kick was headed home at the back post by JONSSON past a diving Alnwick.

Alnwick made a good stop to deny Grant before Posh went close through Shaquile Coulthirst who saw a shot blocked.
