Caretaker manager Grant McCann's first game in charge ends in a stunning 5-1 victory.

Peterborough United secured their biggest win of the campaign following a stunning 5-1 success at Boundary Park against Oldham Athletic.

Lee Angol, handed his first start by caretaker boss Grant McCann, netted twice, his first goals in the Football League, while Souleymane Coulibaly also netted twice and produced his trademark back flip to boot.

Erhun Oztumer, also restored to the line-up, also scored in an impressive display as Posh eased to three points.

Souleymane Coulibaly headed a deep Michael Smith centre over the crossbar on three minutes as Posh made a decent start to the contest at a rather wet Boundary Park.

The deadlock was broken on 14 minutes and it was a beautifully crafted goal too. Erhun Oztumer with a delightful ball to Coulibaly and his low centre was tucked home from close-range by debutant Lee ANGOL. It was Angol's first goal in the Football League as well as his first goal for the club.

Ben Alnwick tipped over a fierce drive from David Dunn on 21 minutes as Oldham produced a decent move of their own. Alnwick produced another stop moments later to deny a Yeates curler, but it was one more for the cameras.

Yeates fired over after a slick Latics move on the half hour mark with Coulibaly going into the book for a sliding challenge.

Posh doubled their lead on 38 minutes and it was another man returning to the starting line-up that got his name on the score-sheet, Erhun OZTUMER firing home via a slight deflection on his right-foot after more excellent approach play from Angol.

On 42 minutes, Posh had a great chance to extend their lead as Jermaine Anderson profited from a clash between two Oldham players, but with players to his left, he decided to go alone and his shot found the side-netting.

Winchester clipped the outside of the post from 25-yards on 47 minutes as Oldham came close to reducing the arrears and moments later the Latics did find the back of the net as Rhys MURPHY fired a superb effort into the corner from the edge of the box.

Coulibaly fired wide of the near post from fully 30-yards as Posh tried to respond to the visible setback of conceding so early in the second period.

Stankevicius fired over from a tight angle on 54 minutes as the home side continued to turn the screw. Coulibaly saw a tame effort saved by Coleman and then headed a deep Oztumer corner kick over the bar as the hour mark approached.

Posh extended their advantage on 62 minutes and it owed a lot to Jermaine Anderson, firstly to intercept a wayward pass on the half way line and then to time the pass to COULIBALY perfectly, the Ivorian poking his finish past Coleman neatly.

Oztumer saw a well flighted free-kick tipped over by Coleman but from the resulting set-piece, Posh made it 4-1. Oztumer and Maddison worked it well, the latter getting to the byline and chipping a perfect cross for COULIBALY who headed home into the corner.

Angol missed a good opportunity to make it 5-1 after racing onto a long ball, his poked finish was straight at goalkeeper Coleman. Yeates was denied by a fine stop from Alnwick, moving across his goal to palm over the bar.

Alnwick produced an even better stop moments later, getting a fingertip to a low Poleon shot to divert the ball onto the post.

Posh introduced Jack Collison for Forrester on 70 minutes with Alnwick continuing to be busy - he fisted a deflected Poleon shot behind for a corner kick as the former Leeds man let fly from a tight angle.

Jon Taylor replaced Maddison on 77 minutes as Grant McCann made a second change. Posh made it 5-1 on 79 minutes as Smith picked out ANGOL 12-yards from goal and he took a touch and fired low into the bottom corner.

Alnwick did well to tip over a fierce Yeates effort from long range as Oldham went in search of a late consolation.
