Determined Posh Secure Points

Peterborough United made it four wins from six as goals in either half condemned Swindon Town to defeat, but Graham Westley's men had to show true grit and determination at the County Ground to secure all three points.

Jon Taylor and Lee Angol had given Posh a 2-0 lead, but a Michael Bostwick own goal gave the Robins hope, but, marshalled by Gabriel Zakuani, Posh put in a determined defensive display and ground out the victory.

Jermaine Hylton headed over inside the first five minutes as the home side created the first opportunity of proceedings, the front man, who netted his first Town goal against Posh last term, failing to get himself over the ball to keep his effort down.

Anton Rodgers, son of former Liverpool manager Brendan, volleyed wide following an inventive free-kick routine on 12 minutes after Bostwick upended Gladwin on the edge of the penalty area.

Lee Angol headed wide of the target on the quarter mark following an excellent right-wing cross from Jon Taylor - the Posh striker just unable to readjust his neck muscles to head the ball goalwards.

Michael Bostwick fired wide from distance before Jermaine Anderson saw a well-struck shot blocked as Posh began to up the tempo.

The lively Ben Gladwin, making his second debut after returning on loan from Queens Park Rangers this week, saw a fierce drive fumbled around the post by Ben Alnwick on 22 minutes.

Gladwin was picking up pockets of space in the number 10 position and came close to breaking the deadlock moments later after tricking his way into space, but he fired powerfully wide from 25-yards.

Chris Forrester saw an audacious effort from almost 40-yards whistle just past the upright and less than 60 seconds later, Jon Taylor cracked the post with a cross that turned into a shot from an improbable angle.

Forrester was denied by Vigouroux on 33 minutes as the Northern Irishman bundled his way into the box at the far post. The deadlock was broken on 37 minutes and it was a well crafted Posh move, Forrester to Anderson who cushioned a fine pass into the path of TAYLOR who squeezed home a shot with his left-foot past Vigouroux.

Ormonde-Ottewill curled a shot over the bar on 49 minutes as the home side made a bright start to the second half with boss Mark Cooper making one or two tactical changes to his XI.

Posh made it 2-0 on 51 minutes and you have to say as goalkeeper rickets go, this was up there. A simple back pass was completely missed by Vigouroux and ANGOL had the simple task of tapping the ball into an empty net.

Bostwick picked up his seventh caution of the season for a crude tackle in the centre circle on 57 minutes.

Brophy twisted and turned in the box just after the hour, but his curler went wide of the far post as Swindon came close to halving the deficit.

Posh were forced into a change on 68 minutes as Jack Collison replaced the injured Forrester in midfield. Bostwick was denied by a fingertip save from Vigouroux on 71 minutes, but amazingly a goal kick was given by the officials.

Swindon got themselves back into the game on 72 minutes as a free-kick from Rodgers was headed into his own net by Bostwick at the near post.

Posh made an immediate change with Souleymane Coulibaly replacing Washington in attack. Five minutes were added on by the fourth official as Posh desperately tried to cling on for the three points.
