Pitch renovations are underway at the ABAX Stadium.
Peterborough United Chief Executive Bob Symns has spoken of his delight as work for the renovation of the ABAX Stadium pitch got underway.
Pitch improvements began on Wednesday as Posh look to make vast improvements to the playing surface and pitch drainage ahead of the 2015-16 Sky Bet League One season.
“Basically what we’re looking to do is to take all the top of the pitch off and take the soil and sand off that supports the drainage as well. Not all of the old drainage is coming out but we are going add in a whole new layer of drainage to improve the facilities; especially bringing the water away from the far side underneath the Family Stand.
“It will then be the new sand and drainage going in and the new soil will go on top of that, and that’ll be overfed and reseeded to give us a pitch worthy of the way the football club likes to play its football.”
Symns explained that while the work was costing the club a significant amount of money, it was a price worth paying to give the club a pitch that allows for the football that Posh fans expect.
“This is going to cost us a lot of money, it’s going to be circa £125,000-£130,000, so it’s a lot of money, it is a big investment and we’re looking to give the club a pitch to play the style of football our supporters are used to.”
Symns was also quick to praise Sportsturf, who are carrying out the pitch renovation, as well as the club’s groundsmen, who are putting in the hard work to make the improvements a reality.
“Sportsturf as usual have been magnificent in supporting us through this, they look after and give us the best pitch for the best Dollar that we pay."
"The groundsman and his team work tirelessly on it and the fact they presented a pitch for us to play on for the season just gone is quite remarkable really because the pitch was diseased, water wouldn’t go in and out of it. It was a terrible situation for everybody but they managed it magnificently for us.”
