Posh and Mick George announce training ground sponsorship.

Peterborough United is delighted to announce that the club’s training ground, Nene Park Academy, will now be called the Mick George Training Academy, after a five-year deal was agreed with the club’s shirt sponsors.

The change in name is effective immediately and demonstrates the continued support from Mick George Ltd, who has actively backed the football club in a number of different ways since coming on board last year.

Earlier this month, the company extended the current shirt sponsorship deal until the end of the 2016-2017 campaign and has provided an even bigger incentive for supporters participating in the popular half-time Skip Challenge, with a cash prize alongside a season ticket for the new season.

Posh Commercial Manager Alex Harris said: ‘Once again, Mick George have demonstrated their commitment to this football club and this deal will allow us to continue to develop the training base in conjunction with Nene Park Academy School, which of course, is not just used by the first team, but by the Academy and the Posh Foundation.

‘The Academy is extremely important to both the football club and to Mick George. The Mick George Training Academy is used by our under 9s through to the first team and is the venue for all development fixtures.

‘The Posh Foundation are at the forefront of the local community, running a whole host of courses and only this month, set-up the Free Kicks United team, which works with players with disabilities and this is based at the Mick George Training Academy. I would like to thank Neil Johnson and the board of Mick George Limited for their continued support of the football club.’

The Foundation works closely with the Posh Academy to provide ‘football for all’ and have developed relationships with schools across the region. They have entered into partnerships with Manor School in Raunds and St. Peters School in Huntingdon, where open trials will take place for youngsters under the age of 18.

The Posh Futsal team are also based at the Mick George Training Academy and use the gym facilities every day. The Futsal Programme is not only a chance to play Futsal every day but gains valuable education qualifications delivered by the school. Players will be working towards a BTEC in sport, with personal training courses and NCS programmes also offered.

Neil Johnson from Mick George said: ‘We are delighted to extend our support to cover the development of the Academy training facilities, which will not just be used by the Peterborough United first team and Academy squads but by increased numbers from many local community groups and schools, including settings for the disabled and disadvantaged. Our business is continuing to expand across the region and we believe our partnership with the club manifests itself in a truly positive way and this is why we were keen to show our long term commitment to the club and to local communities, whom we hope will benefit as a result.’
