Conor Washington has backed strike partner Joe Gormley to be a big hit at Peterborough United.

Gormley arrived from Cliftonville in the summer and netted on his debut in a 3-2 win at Dulwich Hamlet, just minutes after coming off the substitutes bench.

Washington has already seen enough of Gormley to know that he will score goals at League One level this term and believes the two have already forged a strong understanding, both on and off the pitch.

'Joe has hit the ground running if I am honest. He has excellent movement, he has got a great touch and we have hit it off already. We are already looking for each other on the pitch and I believe there is an understanding there already.

'He has obviously scored a lot of goals at Cliftonville and hopefully he can continue that goalscoring form with us. I am really looking forward to working on that partnership during pre-season ahead of the season opener at Rochdale.

'For me personally, I just want a bit more consistency to my game. I seem to go in fits and spurts when it comes to goals, I need to be more consistent, but I am working hard to try and improve that aspect of my game.

'It has been great to get away with the rest of the lads to Ireland for this training camp. The weather has been awful, but the facilities are first class and it is great for the new lads to settle in quickly,' Washington said.
