Posh secure signing of Luton Town front man Lee Angol

Peterborough United have completed the signing of Luton Town striker Lee Angol on a three-year contract after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

Angol started his career with Tottenham Hotspur and scored 31 league goals during a loan spell with Boreham Wood last season.

The 20-year-old was named Young Player of the Year accolade at the National Game Awards for his exploits with Boreham Wood.

Manager Dave Robertson confirmed that the club had beaten off competition from Premier League and Championship clubs for the services of the 6ft 3" striker.

'Lee is an exciting young forward who scored a hatful of goals for Boreham Wood last season. I have spent some time with him and it is obvious that he is hungry and wants to develop as a striker.

'We have beaten off other clubs from the Premier League and the Championship to sign him and I believe he will provide competition for places and make a real impression.'

Angol said: 'It has been a tough few weeks mentally, but I am really happy that everything has been sorted and I am here. There has been interest from other clubs, but once I spoke to the manager, I knew that I wanted to sign for Peterborough.

'The club has a great history with strikers scoring goals and hopefully I can follow in their footsteps. Dwight Gayle actually followed a similar path to me, he left a Premier League club, went out on-loan to a non-league clubs and scored goals and obviously John Still was the manager at the time.

'I like to score goals, but I like to entertain as well and create goals. I hope that I can hit the ground running and score in my first pre-season game,' Angol said.

Angol passed his medical and met his new team-mates at the Mick George Academy on Monday. He could feature in the pre-season friendly against Barnet at the Hive on Tuesday evening.

An interview with Lee will be on the club's YouTube channel soon.
