The new ABAX Stadium pitch will be used for the first time on Saturday.

Premier League side West Ham United visit the ABAX Stadium on Saturday (3pm) and it will be the first chance for supporters to see the new pitch, which the club have invested in heavily during the close season.

West Ham are the first of four high profile visiting teams to visit the ABAX during pre-season with a Tottenham Hotspur XI (18th July), Ipswich Town (25th July) and Cambridge United (1st Aug) all set for action against the Posh.

Chief Executive Bob Symns said: 'It was a big decision for the football club because we are spending a lot of money on the new pitch. Not only have we relaid the pitch, but it has been lasered using the latest technology to make sure we get a flat surface.

'We have also invested in new drainage below the surface which we hope will keep the pitch in perfect order for the next three to five years. It looks magnificent, the grass has come through beautifully and it no longer has a disease, which affected it massively last season.

'I would like to thank Sportsturf for all the hard work that they have completed and are still undetaking. The guys have done a magnificent job, it is not easy when there is so much work to do, but they are treating the pitch with TLC and it looks great,' Symns said.
