Defender Ricardo Almeida Santos is keen to contribute at both ends this season.
At 6ft 5, Ricardo Almeida Santos is a presence in both boxes, but his header in the 3-3 draw with West Ham United on Saturday was the first time the 20-year-old had netted for Peterborough United.
It is something that he has been working on in the first few weeks of pre-season training to ensure that when Posh win set-pieces, he can be a real handful to opposition defences.
'I was happy to score. The boys said it would be a fine if I celebrated, but I couldn't help it. The management have been speaking to me during pre-season about making sure I attack the ball from corners and set-pieces, so I am doing work after training to work on that part of my game.
'Everybody needs to contribute with goals and I am no different. I want to improve my all-round game and the coaches and my team-mates are helping me with that.
'It is great to be playing next to Gabriel Zakuani, he is really important for me. He helps me all of the time. I like playing with Gabs, we know each others game inside out and it seems to work well, but I personally believe we have a settled back four.
'This pre-season training camp in Ireland is important to build on what we have already worked on back in England. The team spirit is fantastic, the lads are all together and we cannot wait to get the season started,' Almeida Santos said.
The centre back will have Alemida Santos on the back of his shirt for the first time this season and he is pleased that both sides of his family is represented. 'My mother's side of the family is Almeida and my Dads side is Santos. I am happy to have both sides in my name,' he concluded.
