Midfielder Grant McCann has joined Linfield after his contract the ABAX Stadium was cancelled by mutual consent.

Peterborough United midfield man Grant McCann has joined NIFL Premiership side Linfield until the end of the current campaign after his contract at the ABAX Stadium was cancelled by mutual consent this week.

McCann, who made close to 200 appearances in all competitions for Posh, has been assisting with the coaching of the youth side in recent weeks, but is keen to play regular football and is thrilled to be joining his boyhood club.

'I am looking forward to it. Linfield is the club that I supported as a kid, I used to go watch them with my Dad and my brother when I was younger. My brother had the opportunity to play for Linfield and won the league with them and I am hoping to follow in his footsteps and do the same thing.

'It is a difficult decision, but as a footballer, you want to play and for whatever reason, I haven't had the opportunity to play as much as I would have liked this season. I have thoroughly enjoyed my four and a half years with Peterborough United. I have had some good times and some low times, but those good times have definitely overshadowed any low moments.

'I just want to thank everyone, the players, the staff, the management team and everyone connected with the club. They have been first class with me and made me and my family extremely welcome.

'I have always had a special relationship with the supporters. I think it helped scoring on my debut, it got me off to a good start and I want to thank the fans for their backing. When I look back, I think the goal at Old Trafford has to be the highlight and one that sticks out in everyone's memory. It was a wonderful occasion and great to help the team get promoted in my first season at the club.

'It is a new chapter now and one I am really looking forward to,' McCann said.

The football club would like to take this opportunity to thank Grant for his contribution to the club in the last four and a half years and wish him the best of luck in the future.
