A Jack Friend hat-trick earned the Posh under 18s a 3-1 victory at Gillingham on Tuesday afternoon.

The Peterborough United under 18s bounced back from 1-0 down to earn a 3-1 victory at Gillingham in their latest Youth Alliance League fixture with Jack Friend scoring a second half hat-trick.

Friend converted two one-on-one opportunities before pouncing on a loose ball to complete his treble after the Gills goalkeeper had denied Ben Keating.

Posh had fallen behind five minutes after the re-start, but scored three goals in 10 minutes to secure the win and created more chances to make the score-line more comfortable.

Jonny Edwards was superbly denied by the home shot-stopper while there were other opportunities for Dave Robertson's men that were spurned.

Robertson was delighted with his team's character in the win and praised Bradley Maslen-Jones who completed 90 minutes for the first time since seriously injuring his knee in a pre-season fixture at Bishops Stortford.

'Bradley was exceptional both in his defending, but also in his desire and determination during his performance. He showed tremendous energy and it is great to have him back available for selection.

'Jack found pockets of space throughout the game and took his goals very well, while the movement of Jonny was outstanding. I would also like to praise the delivery from wide areas from Tobi Adebayo-Rowling and the displays of Ollie Luto and James Ward, who have come back from the Christmas break in fine form.

'The lads showed great character to bounce back after falling 1-0 behind on the counter attack. I was delighted with them and they deserved the win,' Robertson said.

Posh have three league games remaining this season, away to AFC Wimbledon this weekend before trips to MK Dons and Cambridge United at the end of the month.

Posh: Henry, Luto, Robinson, Ward, Maslen-Jones, Trialist, Hood, Keating, Adebayo-Rowling, Friend, Edwards.
