Bristol City consolidated their position at the top of League One with a 2-0 win over Peterborough United.

Peterborough United were beaten 2-0 by league leaders Bristol City at Ashton Gate as Steve Cotterill's men scored a goal in each half to secure all three points.

Darren Ferguson made one change to his starting line-up with David Norris replacing Erhun Oztumer. Jermaine Anderson dropped out of the 18 on duty.

The hosts came close to the breakthrough inside the opening two minutes as skipper Korey Smith hooked a shot over Alnwick on the stretch, but the ball bounced wide of the target.

Freeman was denied the opener by a fine Alnwick stop as his curler headed for the corner, but from the resulting set-piece, the hosts did get themselves in front.

The deadlock was broken on nine minutes as a corner from the left was met by Smith, his flick-on picked out Bryan whose shot was saved by the legs of Alnwick but FLINT was there to bury the rebound.

Agard fired over after Little kept a hopeful ball in play as City continued to probe. Smith was cautioned for a foul on Agard in a wide area on 35 minutes, referee Mr Sarginson deeming the offence was not stopping a clear run on goal.

On 43 minutes, Posh were a whisker away from a leveller as David Norris crashed a volley inches past the post after the hosts failed to clear from a Smith long throw.

It was 2-0 to the Robins on 49 minutes as Kieran AGARD nodded home from close-range after goalkeeper Alnwick had made a superb initial stop to push an effort from Bryan onto the post.

Mclean saw a deflected effort go just wide of the target before Posh made two changes with Erhun Oztumer and Jon Taylor replacing Brisley and Mclean.

Kgosi Ntlhe replaced Newell on 66 minutes in the final Posh switch. Smith headed a Freeman corner kick over the bar on 70 minutes.

Agard turned well in the box on 77 minutes, but his shot was well blocked by Bostwick. Oztumer saw a well directed header plucked out of the air by Fielding after a good run and cross down the right by Beautyman.
