Posh host Gillingham at the ABAX Stadium in Sky Bet League One action on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

Peterborough United entertain Gillingham on Tuesday night looking to build on a three-match unbeaten run, which has seen Darren Ferguson's men move to within two points of the play-off positions in League One.

Posh picked up a point from a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town on Saturday and go into the clash with the Gills in confident mood. Gillingham appointed former Newport County boss Justin Edinburgh as their new manager ahead of their weekend win over Sheffield United, but it will be his first time in the dugout at the ABAX Stadium.

Ferguson, who celebrated his 43rd birthday on Monday, is hopeful for good news on Kyle Vassell's ankle injury. The former Bishop's Stortford front man underwent a scan on Monday afternoon.

'Kyle was in a lot of pain on Friday, but the swelling has gone down considerably over the weekend so I am more hopeful than I was, but we will see what the scan says. He will definitely miss Tuesday night's game, but we will take it from there.'

Jon Taylor will not be involved against Gillingham but could feature in a development fixture against Luton Town at the Nene Park Academy on Wednesday. Goalkeeper Ben Alnwick could also play some part in that game against the Hatters.

Defender Gabriel Zakuani returns to Peterborough on Tuesday, but won't be involved after helping his country DR Congo to third place in the African Cup of Nations.

'Gabi has done very well and has played a major part in the country's success. He returns on Tuesday, we will have a chat with and have a look at him Wednesday and go from there with regards to his involvement at the weekend.'

Gillingham beat Posh 2-1 at Priestfield earlier in the season with a late penalty kick securing all three points for Peter Taylor's men.
